SAVIR Awards

SAVIR awards recognize and celebrate members’ significant contributions to the field of injury and violence prevention. These awards are acknowledged at the annual conference.

 


Presidential Awards

SAVIR Presidential Award – Recognizes an individual for distinguished lifetime achievements in advancing the field of violence and injury prevention in the United States and around the world. This award is the highest that SAVIR can bestow on a member; therefore, the achievements and contributions of the individual must truly be outstanding and significant. Normally, the individual will have made these contributions and achievements over a sustained period of time. Recipients are nominated and selected by the SAVIR Council of Past Presidents. 

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Individual should have made contributions to the field of violence and injury prevention research, including as a national and international speaker, published author, and active participation in other associations that promote violence and injury prevention.
  • Individual should have made significant contributions to the field of violence and injury prevention by actively serving in leadership roles.
  • Individual should have made a sustained contribution, and therefore may be near the end of their violence and injury prevention research career.

 

SAVIR Outstanding Service Award - To recognize individuals for their distinguished service to SAVIR over an extended period of time. Service to SAVIR might include leadership roles as an officer, committee chair, committee member, reviewer, board member, fundraiser, or other such contributions that have enhanced and furthered the mission of SAVIR. Service on committees of SAVIR and jointly sponsored activities by other violence and injury prevention organizations shall be included as relevant contributions. Recipients are nominated by SAVIR Board of Directors and Committee Chairs and selected by the Executive Committee. 

 


Awards in recognition of work presented at the conference

SAVIR Outstanding Science Presentation Award – To recognize the best science presented at the conference. Recipients are selected based on two criteria 1) top percentile in peer review of abstracts 2) top presentation score by two or more judges from the Science Committee 

 

SAVIR Student Outstanding Science Presentation Award– To recognize the best science presented at the conference by a student or trainee. Recipients are selected based on two criteria 1) top percentile in peer review of abstracts 2) top presentation score by two or more judges from the Science Committee

 

SAVIR Brooks Webb Student Paper Award– To recognize high-quality research contributions by SAVIR student members. The recipient of this award is determined based on a scientific review process conducted by board members. To be considered for this award, students submit a brief report for review. Each participant receives written feedback on their paper and a one-on-one session to discuss publication after the conference. The winner receives acknowledgment at the SAVIR conference and priority review for publication in Injury Prevention.  

 


Awards in recognition of a body of work

SAVIR Excellence in Violence or Injury Prevention Science – To recognize a mid-career to senior-level scientist whose leadership, research, and service have led to important advancements in violence and injury prevention science. Each year, members are invited to submit nominations and a review committee selects a recipient based on criteria that reflect the mission of SAVIR and scientific advancement in violence and injury prevention research.

Criteria:

  • Individual should have made significant long-term contributions to violence or injury prevention research, including as a published author and national and international speaker.
  • The significant and long-term impact should be described with supporting evidence.
  • Individual should have made significant contributions to SAVIR by actively serving on committees and/or the Board.
  • Recipient must be a SAVIR member when nominated.
  • A nomination form and two letters of support are required.
  • Submissions will be considered based on criteria such as: originality of research, impact of research, quality of outputs (publications, presentations, novel use of media), collaborations/teamwork, public engagement or outreach, commitment to future talent, the degree to which their body of work supports SAVIR’s principles of ADEI, and other indicators of esteem demonstrated by the nominator.

 

SAVIR Early Career Excellence AwardTo recognize an early-career scientist, generally fewer than ten years following completion of last degree or training, whose noteworthy, innovative, and scholarly contributions have the potential for substantial influence in the understanding of violence and injury prevention. Each year, members are invited to submit nominations and a review committee selects a recipient based on criteria that reflect the mission of SAVIR and scientific advancement in violence and injury prevention research.

Criteria:

  • Individual should have made significant contributions to violence or injury prevention research.
  • The contributions and potential impact should be described with supporting evidence.
  • Individual should have made significant contributions to SAVIR by actively serving on committees and/or the Board.
  • Recipient must be a SAVIR member when nominated.
  • A nomination form and two letters of support are required.
  • Submissions will be considered based on criteria such as: originality of research, impact of research, quality of outputs (publications, presentations, novel use of media), collaborations/teamwork, independence and/or ambitions, public engagement or outreach, other indicators of esteem demonstrated by the nominator.
