SAVIR E-News: July 2022
In my recent editorial comments published in Injury Prevention (http://dx.doi.org/10.1136/injuryprev-2022-044668), I shared my thoughts about the mission of SAVIR and major initiatives approved by the Executive Committee and Board of Directors. I noted that “Now is a challenging time which has become complicated by geopolitics, the infodemic on internet and social media, rising firearm injuries, preventable opioid-related deaths, mental health issues and suicides that have been exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic, and inadequate funding for violence and injury control and research.” Many of us are facing ongoing challenges in violence and injury prevention (likely even more than I mentioned), but I am optimistic that by working together under the banner of SAVIR, we will significantly contribute toward global efforts to make a healthier and safer world. |

The SAVIR Council of Centers represents the Center members in SAVIR. The council is charged with growing and advancing the field of injury and violence research, expanding funding for the field, developing collaborations among centers, and assisting centers and academic institutions in training the next generation of injury and violence prevention professionals. |
SAVIR is pleased to announce that we have signed onto the Call to Action for Equity in Injury and Violence Prevention issued by Safe States, a leading partner in addressing health equity and anti-racism in the injury and violence prevention field. By signing on to this call to action, SAVIR is joined by more than 30 organizations in committing to broadening the reach of injury and violence programs by reducing racial and health inequities through community engagement, partnership initiatives, and policy strategies with the goal to support more equitable outcomes for disadvantaged populations. |
Trauma Research Capacity Building Training Project by Duke University and Kilimanjaro Christian Medical Centre, TanzaniaResearchers at the Duke University (USA) and Kilimanjaro Christian Medical Centre (Tanzania) received a 5-year training grant awarded by the National Institute Health Fogarty International Center to train professionals in injury and trauma care research in Tanzania. |
