Reflections from the President

As we approach the end of the year, you may be planning donations to organizations that are important to you. As you know, SAVIR is a small organization run mostly by volunteers who are other injury researchers. These volunteers serve on the board of directors, as committee members and chairs, and as conference hosts, devoting their time and energy to advancing the field of injury and violence research. I hope you’ll consider including SAVIR in your year-end giving plans.

Summary of Injury Prevention Day (Nov 18)

Thanks to all who joined @savir_org on Twitter to celebrate National Injury Prevention Day on November 18. Throughout the week, we featured many SAVIR members in our “Faces of Injury and Violence Prevention Science” series (#SAVIRScientists). SAVIR joined a national #BeInjuryFree Twitter Chat on November 18, where dozens of organizations and individuals joined a discussion about the best ways to prevent injury and increase safety.

Johns Hopkins Center for Injury Research and Policy

The Johns Hopkins Center for Injury Research and Policy is dedicated to closing the gap between injury research and practice to prevent unintentional and intentional injuries across the life span. We have strategically selected four priority topic areas because of the potential to impact lives saved and improve the quality of life: home safety, including infant sleep safety, and fall prevention; substance use and overdose, including safe pill storage and opioid overdose prevention; transportation safety, including motor vehicle crashes and transportation infrastructure; and violence, including intimate partner and youth violence prevention.

Committee Spotlight: Membership Committee

The mission of the membership committee is to create an organization inclusive of researchers working in diverse fields and their research institutions. The objectives of the committee include increasing and sustaining SAVIR membership and developing plans to recruit researchers, research centers, and organizations as active members.
