Reflections from the President - November 2020

As I write this, Election Day is still a week away. Regardless of the outcome, the need for violence and injury research will remain critical. This year has highlighted the importance of studying the effects of racism, COVID-19, natural disasters, and an increasingly polarized national environment on rates of unintentional injury, suicidal behaviors, and interpersonal violence. It is equally important to identify underlying causes, test interventions, disseminate findings, and study strategies for translating research into practice if we are to reduce these preventable deaths. There is a great deal of work ahead of us, but together we can accomplish much.
