Reflections from the President

As I write this column, we are in the midst of preparing for the SAVIR 2020 annual conference in Philadelphia, and the conference host committee at University of Pennsylvania, led by Doug Wiebe and Sarah Solomon, has been working actively to ensure that symposia and technical workshops were selected for presentation, that abstracts were reviewed and accepted, and that our two keynote speakers, Thea James, MD, Vice President of Mission and Associate Chief Medical Officer at Boston Medical Center and Associate Professor of Emergency Medicine and Deborah Houry, MD, MPH, Director, National Center for Injury Prevention and Control, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention were confirmed and are looking forward to engaging with the meeting attendees.

2020 Conference Updates

Registration is now open!

The SAVIR Annual Conference is April 27-29, 2020 at The Inn at Penn in Philadelphia, PA. The theme of this year’s conference is “Promoting Health Equity Through the Science of Injury and Violence Prevention.” The opening keynote speaker is Dr. Thea James. Dr. James is an Associate Professor of Emergency Medicine at Boston Medical Center/Boston University School of Medicine. Our closing keynote speaker is Dr. Debra Houry, the Director of the National Center for Injury Prevention and Control at the CDC.

SAVIR Board Positions Open

Historic Budget Agreement Earmarks $25 Million for Gun Violence Research

In December 2019, Congress approved $25 million towards gun violence prevention research, in an historic bipartisan agreement.
